Pandora’s Box: Redbox To Debut $2 Video Game Rentals

redbox-video-gamesThe infamous Redbox is about to pull a fast one. Their popularity has been growing for a while with their $1 a day rental of DVDs but now it looks like they’re venturing into the video game business.

Word is Redbox will be offering the popular video games which include the Nintendo DS, Wii, PS2 and 3, and Xbox 360. So far, game titles are slim but I’m sure it will pick up.

So far, rentals for video games have been rolled out in Reno and other places in Nevado and hopefully, it will appear in more states.

This could be a huge deal and could potential really hurt stores like Blockbuster and other gaming outlets. Their DVD rental system has already hurt some major studios with their DVD sales.

On the other hand, I welcome this. Redbox, you’re my new best friend.

  1. If you’re itching to try an interesting game but with limited budget, I think $2/$1 a night is fair enough. However, if the game got you hooked and thought of playing it for longer period, it’ll be cost effective to purchase rather than just rent.
