Microsoft Making Big Changes In Entertainment And Devices Division (Update: Both J Allard And Robbie Bach Are Out!)

If you haven’t heard the news, here’s the scoop: A couple of weeks ago, the execs at Microsoft decided to ax the infamous Microsoft Courier. This did not sit well with the current head of Microsoft Entertainment, J Allard. J Allard in fact had been threatening to quit over the way things were going and he has been noticeably absent.

Fast forward. J Allard may be getting his wish. According to the Wall Street Journal, J Allard may be removed from his position and be replaced by Robbie Bach, the president of Entertainment and Devices division.

No comment from Microsoft but an announcement is expected.

This is disappointing considering the impact that J Allard has made at Microsoft. He is considered the inspiration behind both the Zune and Xbox and Xbox Live.

Update:

Looks like the rumors are true. The move for the Entertainment and Devices will effectively dissolve the division’s current structure and leave the existing Xbox and Windows Mobile leaders to report to Ballmer starting in July. J Allard will remain with the company as an adviser to Ballmer.

Microsoft will appoint company veteran David Treadwell to core technology group inside the Interactive Entertainment Business.

It’s a sad day at Microsoft. J Allard will be truly missed.
