It would happen sooner or later. Microsoft has officially killed its social networking phone, the Kin.
Truth be told, the Kin had a lot of potential but the execution as well as the design was seriously flawed.
This is the official statement from Microsoft:
“We have made the decision to focus exclusively on Windows Phone 7 and we will not ship KIN in Europe this fall as planned. Additionally, we are integrating our KIN team with the Windows Phone 7 team, incorporating valuable ideas and technologies from KIN into future Windows Phone releases. We will continue to work with Verizon in the U.S. to sell current KIN phones.”
The Kin team is supposedly going to be working with the Windows Phone 7 team (where they belong)
The Kin was met with mixed reviews from critics and consumers. Most of the social networking features were lacking in the phone. The Twitter app was lacking in retweets as well as some other features. There were no games as well as no map app.
For a social networking phone as well as being advertised to teens, the Kin lacked some serious features that teens are accustomed too.
Many saw this coming (including me). The price for the phone itself as well as the date plan was too high.
Will the phone be missed? Probably not. The Kin Studio will be missed as many have said it was the only gem for the Kin.
Bye Kin. I hardly knew you
