Usually, it’s mostly celebrities and people of consequence who get to get that blue check on your Twitter account. But now, all you regular people can now get a chance to have your account verified.
Twitter will now allow anyone to get that blue check on their account by filling out an online form with some personal details. You will have to put in a verified phone number, email address, a profile pic and some additional information regarding why a verification is required for your account or how it will be helpful.
It’s an interesting turn of events and its going to interesting to see if Twitter will be able to keep up with people who want have their accounts verified. Of course, it will be also be interesting to see if people will actually want to provide real names and addresses to Twitter. Twitter tends to be a place where you can be anonymous, posting personal opinions and tweets about issues you wouldn’t normally say in a public forum with their real name attached to it.
It’s not going to smooth sailing to get verified as Twitter reserves the right to demand an uploaded scan of a government-issued ID if it comes to that.
Twitter does find itself in an interesting position as it tries to deal with online trolling as well as racist and abusive tweets. The company has come under pressure for not doing enough to solve that.
It will be interesting to see if one day if Twitter will put in measures to make people submit personal information to register onto their platform.
